Officer Meeting Minutes - August 29, 2006 

Greetings from Dr. Asthagiri-welcome, congrats and keep up the good work!

Starting this semester, AIChE will begin sponsoring speakers for the professional seminar class (ECH 4934)

• Obtain list of students in the professional seminar class to contact them

Fundraising-greatly needed!  Some possibilities:

• Companies during career fair
• Coldstone, football games, other ideas…see Ina Agaj
• Need to become self-sufficient, limited funds from Dept
• Corporate Sponsors are very important to us

Sponsorship Letters should go out, perhaps with newsletter or chapter update

• Contact Katie Wysocki to help out with letter
• Possibility for a tier system, ie bronze silver and gold sponsors, providing additional incentives
• Continuously update contact list for corporate sponsors
• Have additional sponsorship meeting for those with internships and HR contacts

New Program:  ChEMP

• 30min tutoring session after every general body meeting
•  Seniors helping all underclassmen
•  Tutors will receive points toward active membership

Community Service

• Ronald McDonald house
• Idea for this semester, could cook dinner for them
•  To be scheduled during football bi-week-Sat Oct 21
•  Toys for Tots-bring presents to AIChE Holiday Party

Plant Tour

•  Clariant-close to Gainesville and convenient
•   Tuesday, Oct 3 2:30-4:30pm

Regionals/ChemE car Chair-Keith Heyer

• New Safety policies-affect selection for new chair
• Mandatory Safety meeting-required for ChemE car chairs
• Meeting only held during Nationals
• Only 1 student allowed from each school, plus faculty advisor
• Chair will have to hold office for an entire year and attend nationals
• Officers voted to have 2 car chairs, both elected Fall and serving through Spring

Membership Requirements:

•   2 meetings
•  2 Fundraising points
•   Shirt, Coldstone, Printer fee, National Member, SAFE, etc
•  2 Social points-Dept mixer, meet and greet, Lake Wauburg, etc
•  3 Social Development points
•  Info Sessions, Plant Tours, Professional Seminar, etc
•  Community Service, tutoring and mentoring counts as 2 points!

 Biery Room printer-to be fixed soon

• $5 for National members, $10 for non-National members
•  If someone prints for another student, his/her privileges will be revoked
•  AIChE needs to clean out filing cabinet in Biery Room

 Senior Banquet held in the Spring, not Fall this year

 Fall Student Organization Fair-9/14/2006-10am-3pm

•  AIChE will table at the fair, and run ChemE car through the colonnade
•  Will have candy too
•  Need volunteers!!  Especially officers
•  Also advertise in other engineering locations around campus

  Info Sessions in September

• Anheuser Busch, Intel-Sept 14th  6:15-8:30pm
•  Dow, Exxon and P&G-Sept 18th 5:30-8:30pm
•  Citgo-Sept 19th 8:30-9:30pm (co-sponsored with ASME)
•  DuPont-Sept 20th, time TBA (co-sponsored with ASME)

Career Fair

•  Technical Day on the second day of the fair!!  Tues, Sept 19th
•  Social will be held at On the Border

College of Engineering will hold Industrial Advisory Board

•  Engineering professionals (company executives, professors, alumni, etc) will attend an open discussion to see what we like and don’t like about the department
  
• The Department will not be involved in this meeting
•  Required for UF ABET accreditation
•  Food will be provided!!
•  Would like to get at least 15 students to attend
•  Thurs-9/28 4-5pm and Fri-9/29 12-1pm (Private)

 Professional Seminar Help

•  Student volunteers needed to help setup and cleanup for the seminars
•  Schedule, all 7:30-8:30pm:
•  9/19-Thomas Brown, CITGO Petroleum
•  9/20-Chris Morgan, Mosaic
•  10/2-Paul Carr, Tropicana
• 10/23-Larry Seward, Procter & Gamble
•  Website-New look and new calendar!!

New Program

• Save your cell-donate old cell phones! 
•  AIChE can get money for it, up to $150
•  Enviro-ink Program
•  Bring in used ink cartridges and get AIChE a ream of paper!
•  No longer able to use the department’s ink

 Nationals-San Francisco

Mentor Program

• Sept 12th 3pm Department Mixer in the Biery Room
•  Food provided, all students should attend!!!
•  Sept 12th 6pm AIChE’s meet and greet (NEB 101)
•   Pizza and Ice Cream!!!  Get to know each other!!
•  Provide advice and help with conceptual problems in classes

 Football Tickets

•  Email sent out today
•  Possibility to add AIChE members to an already existing block

 Announcements-give advanced notice to Rob Luft to be able to speak at the meeting, and be included in the agenda
